Confronting the Economic Crisis: the Biblical Witness on Wealth and Poverty
The economic crisis of recent years has led to much uncertainty, fear, and hardship. People are asking questions about fairness, corruption, how our society should structure lending arrangements, and the gap between rich and poor. Such inquiries are nothing new and receive a great deal of attention in Scripture.
This series will address what the Bible has to say about economic life in both the Old and New Testaments. We will explore unfamiliar passages and also look at familiar ones to see what they have to say about wealth and poverty. Throughout the series, we will consider the relevance of this witness for our contemporary context.
The 2012 Duerr Lecture Series will be February 26, 27 and 28. Dr. Samuel Adams, Assistant Professor of Old Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, VA, is the speaker.
